Balboa City School students are smart. They have the capacity to do well in school but they have not found the right structure. School has been a chore, or more akin to running a guantlet than it should have been. The good news is that within a day or two, our new students are enjoying school and learning! They enjoy school because they are learning.
Less stress at school means life at home is much easier for the entire family. Children look forward to school in the morning. There is more quality time for the family.
Very smart children often don’t succeed in school for many reasons because they are bored, feel disconnected from their teachers or peers, or their hands can’t move as quickly as their thoughts. Perhaps they get distracted in large classrooms. At Balboa City School our small, structured classes and emphasis on very high response rates ensure that each child is challenged but not overwhelmed.
Former Balboa School students have been accepted to some of the best colleges in the United States. These include University of California at Berkeley, Wellesley College, University of California at Irvine, The University of San Diego, and The University of California in San Diego. Many attend state colleges also.
Balboa City School has produced a number of National Merit Scholars and National Merit semi-finalists. They have also earned prestigious national writing prizes. Many have earned scholarships to college. Some join the ROTC and others qualify for and enter honors programs in their local community college.
Balboa City School is a fully accredited, K-12, college preparatory private school located on the western edge of Balboa Park, near downtown San Diego. We are also cleared by the Department of Homeland Security to teach foreign students. We are approved by the University of California as a college preparatory high school.
