Balboa City School

The following are a sample of letters received from parents whose children attend Balboa City School.

To whom it May Concern:

Our daughter began to attend Balboa City School at age nine in the Summer of 2004. After six years of school instruction she did not know the alphabet, arithmetic or how to read. While she did not have specific behavior issues, her ability to interact appropriately with peers (especially other girls) did not come easily to her. Within the first year of attending Balboa City School she began to read due to the excellent staff and the student-teacher ratio that the school realized that she needed at the time and provided. She is now fourteen years old and a voracious reader of age-appropriate books. The gains in math and her writing skills have been just as impressive. Balboa City School provides the low student teacher ratios needed for their students to succeed in vital academic areas. Her social skills have like wised improved and has made many friendships that extend far beyond the reaches of the campus. The personal, caring staff gets to know each pupil well and focus not only on their academic goals, but on the students’ social needs as well. She is determined to go to a university to become an Occupational Therapist as she says that they “really can help people out and make some good money”. I can whole-heartedly recommend the Balboa City School as our child has certainly blossomed in every way possible there!

Sincerely,
T. and C. R.

Dear Dr. Parker,

I want to personally thank you for providing a safe, nurturing school atmosphere for J. I know without doubt that his differences would make him an easy target. Plus, without the extra attention and people who care about him, his learning challenges would be insurmountable. With the help of his teachers and the staff he has made tremendous progress this past year both academically and socially. And, the best thing is that he feel good about himself and can see the light at the end of the tunnel – he can see now that if he keeps working hard he can read and write “… just like the other kids.” I also want to thank you for your support of the After School Program. This is such a better alternative than J. being at home by himself all afternoon. He’s getting exercise and having fun hanging out with friends. I would be happy to speak to any parent that is considering Balboa for their child.

Best,
K. K.

Hello Dr. Parker:
Please cut and paste this link below to see one of the 5 sec. taping segment of J’s [boy singing group] performance on Fox News San Diego which appeared right after the American Idol show last week. It appeared on three different days and segments with different anchor persons. It was just a tidbit of the song because American Idol does not yet feature groups; however, I have received several emails this week from Fox San Diego considering the boys to do a Fox Idol Morning Show, and they are introducing them as Idol hopefuls. I will keep you posted.

Also, J. and his group sang two songs (actually, the only two songs that they know!) at the Celebrity Theatre in Hollywood last Saturday. And the actor/singer Tyreese stayed at the same hotel as ours and the boys sang a song for him at the hotel. Tyresse was not readily impressed, as he is a powerful singer, I told him that the boys are just starting out but would appreciate his feedback. Nevertheless, the boys received some beneficial feedback from him which has encouraged them to practice even more.

Since attending Balboa, J’s self-worth has elevated and he started this group only 3 1/2 weeks ago! He is very happy now with better grades, teachers and staff who care about him, even when he is being a pain in the rump sometimes. Thank you for all that you are doing on J’s behalf, it is truly working!

Sincerely,
M.

Hi Dr. Parker:
I wanted you to know that since E. started The Balboa City School, she appears to be honestly happy. She is more social, and in the past days she has gone back and forth to school, not only without going to sleep in the car, but with smiles, and conversation. This may not sound like a big thing, but it is the first time she has ever stayed awake and talked and even listened while in a car. She also talks about her plans for the future and her hopes of becoming a great Anime artist and story writer. Today she forgot to wear her hat in school. In the past she would have had a hissy fit, but she did not make a fuss about it at all. Finally she has expressed a desire to have sleepovers with friends. These may sound like small things, but they bring me such excitement and joy. This is the way I had hoped school would have always been for her. Please put this on your web site and let parents know that my daughter has attended the school only a few months and has already made some significant changes. I hope this letter will inspire other parents to help their kids do so much better.......

I am a forever grateful parent,
C.E.
