Community and Program History
Balboa School was founded in 1991 as a dynamic, creative secondary school. Over the years, our program evolved into a full 1-12 private college-preparatory program after the addition of our elementary program in 2001. Currently, our campus sits adjacent to California Center for the Arts, in Escondido.
The program includes mentoring as a means of unleashing individual talent and creativity in the context of college preparatory activities. Small structured classes, Socratic seminars, project-based learning, and individual accountability all have an important place in the program. Balboa School also welcomes foreign students of all ages from first grade to grade twelve and is approved by the federal government to issue I-20s.
Competitive sports have recently been incorporated into the school program with the founding of the Balboa School Force. With the Force, Balboa School has become a top academy of basketball where learning comes first.
Balboa School is a fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and a member of the College Board.
