With the opportunity to empower young minds through technology, STEM Program is now implemented in the curriculum of numerous schools. STEM is the integration of four disciplines namely: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in a cohesive method of learning.
In order to help students to be successful in a global society, Balboa School integrated STEM Program into their core curriculum for both Middle School and High School. According to Alex Cohen, there are certain reasons why STEM training should start in middle school.
- Programs in middle school help students understand the relation between STEM and real life. It makes science and math feel relevant and keep them engaged and interested.
- During middle school years, students are able to form opinions about future career ideas.
- Students can learn and hone valuable skills such as analytical reasoning and problem solving that will be useful in whatever field they end up choosing.
- Hands-on learning is critical in middle school.
Aside from Math and Physical Science, Balboa School offers accredited STEM classes which includes coding and programming. Balboa School also have a dedicated Robotics club to provide a more hands-on experience. Discovery Techbooks are intended for all Science courses. Techbooks are utilized so that students have the opportunity to engage in virtual science labs. Balboa School strives to provide outstanding growth by teaching in small class sizes in order to give 1 on 1 attention to the needs of each student.
